Bridgeshadows - Pray For Rain, Independent/Youngside Records

Bridgeshadows is a poor name for another female fronted band. The group is a three piece consisting of singer Bethany Jones, former Wedding Party keyboardist KL who also does guitars and programming, and Jonathan Stamets (vocals, guitar, programming) who is also part of Coriolis. Gothic metal, rock, dance and electronic elements form a convincing combination. The opening track Feedback is a good example of the bands power. Take the chorus with its huge guitar sound and the harmonic vocals: light female vocals and powerful male vocals. At a certain point you can even hear three layers of different vocal melody lines. Electronic sounds enhance the song. A perfect opener for the album. Water Runs Deep has a bit of Type O Negative and Kohllapse feel, yet with thick keyboard layers. It's a pity this band doesn't have a drummer. The drum programming doesn't appeal to me in this song. In other songs a more realistic drum sound is used. Nonetheless, this is a great song because of the use of double vocals. With the title track Bridgeshadows builds a metal song on top of a dance track at 135 pbm. The album also has weaker moments, like Rose, the ballad, which is not a bad tune at first, but becomes annoying after a while. Too monotonous. Bridgeshadows makes it up with the final song, Dust To Dust, with dark vocals in the verses, a wall of sound and a strong chorus. Overall the album is good and very likeable. I would prefer a better band name though.
