Conspiracy Of Thought - Nothing
More Than Light, Independent/Youngside
Records
Although this band has been around since 1994, I never heard of them
before. Their website
indicates they at least had two albums prior to Nothing More Than Light. After an intro
track the song Phoenix Rising starts with down tuned riffs and slapping bass lines. The
comparison with Korn is easily made. Conspiracy Of Thought adds keyboards to create
interesting sound bytes. This song is quite well done. The third track (title track) has a
string arrangement and triphop beats that give it a familiar ring. The raw vocals of Ben
Stewart suit this kind of music. But the song gives an entirely different impression of
the same band. This seems to be indicative for the rest of the album. Sometimes you hear
something in the nu metal vein (Blowback). Sometimes it's more along the lines of funky
hard rock (The Plan), grunge (Genome) and even rapcore (Missing). You can hear all kind of
influences from well known bands. It's clear CoT listened to their contemporary peers
well. Think for instance of Nine Inch Nails, Korn and Rage Against The Machine. The
production is good and so are the song structures. If the abovementioned styles appeal to
you, you might want to check out this band. Some of this stuff is actually quite cool.
Play it loud to fully appreciate it. How come I never heard of this band before?
