Dagon - Paranormal Ichthyology, Bombworks Records
| Dagon is a new band on the Bombworks Records. The band stands for a mix
of melodic death metal, thrash and classic heavy metal. This resulted in powerful,
energetic metal music with a lot of uptempo passages and guitar solos. The whole sound is
very melodic. Vocally the band varies deep grunts with shrieking sounds. Personally I
wouldn't have minded a more thrashy or screaming vocal delivery, instead of the shrieks.
This is music that may even appeal to fans of bands like As I Lay Dying, though the vocals
are completely different. A song like Pirate Hunter wouldn't sound bad on a next AILD
album. And what a nice guitar solo in this song! Dagon consists of two guitarists for a
duo guitar sound. The production is well done, but not top notch. There are some very nice
songs on Paranormal Ichthyology, besides Pirate Hunter. Take for instance We Will Destroy
with its galloping riffs or Children Of Poseidon III with a great solo. Another highlight
is Blackbeard. These guys know how to shred. |
