Divinefire - Farewell, Rivel Records
The fourth album from Divinefire doesn't hold any big surprises. That was
different when the band emerged in the metal scene four years ago. With their debut record
Glory Thy Name, Divinefire surprised with their convincing combination of the more
powerful metal styles with the slick melodies and harmonies of the lighter metal styles.
The debut also contained lots of keyboard sounds. Since the debut Divinefire has slowly
gotten heavier, without losing their ability to come up with catchy choruses and thick
melodic layers. This final bombastic effort proves only how well this band has gotten.
This is a perfect blend of atmospheric and symphonic metal with extremer styled music like
thrash and death. When the three guys of Divinefire started back in 2004, they had the
intention to record only three albums. But the demand from the fans and the fact they had
excellent material left over, made them decide to come up with this proper farewell
record. After a mellow intro tune, the album starts with the furious and energetic Unity.
This is bombastic metal with a chorus you can sing along to so easily. But this can also
be said of the other songs, like the nice track Grow And Follow. This is music that sticks
in your memory immediately. But that's something we've come to expect from the band. The
only real surprise is the twelve minutes long track Heal Me. It begins as if you're about
to get a symphonic rock song, though the guitars are heavier. Later on the metal becomes
more evident and there are even uptempo metal passages. A fine mix of symphonic rock/metal
and extreme metal and a worthy ending of this Farewell album. Besides clean vocals, there
are some growls on the CD, done by Hubertus Liljegren. And there are many excellent guitar
solos, done by Carl Johan Grimmark. So, this is where it ends. It's a great pity Christian
Liljegren, Jani Stefanovic and Andreas Olsson are determined to end Divinefire. Or will
fan demand force them to come back one day? |
