Frosthardr - Varg, Momentum Scandinavia

| This EP contains only three songs that fill twenty minutes with solid
Norwegian black metal. The CD starts with the title track that was recorded in January
2007. It's a fine example of fast, elementary black metal. Though there are some slower
passages, this is black metal back brought back to its essence. No keyboards, no clean
vocals, no exotic instruments to enhance the sound. Just the interaction of guitars, bass,
drums with shrieking vocals. The second song, Tortured, is almost twelve minutes, and was
recorded in January 2004. This is a different Frosthardr. The sound is even darker and
keyboards were added in the background to create the right atmosphere. The song sometimes
sounds like a collection of sounds, knitting together one riff idea after another. The
final tune is a cover of Thrash Against Sin, originally recorded by One Bad Pig around
1989. Frosthardr did this song in 2005. You can still hear it's the original track, but
it's very different at the same time. This is also the only track with grunts besides the
traditional shrieks. Nice version though. Varg is not a very easy accessible CD, but there
are some good moments. It was released in a limited amount of only 850 copies, so be quick
to get this one. More information on their website: Frosthardr |
