Harmony - Aftermath, Ulterium Records
In 2003 Harmony released their debut album Dreaming Awake through
Massacre Records (and now re-released by Ulterium Records). Back then I labeled them as a
band that sounded much like Narnia. Now, five years later, these Swedish guys are back
with a follow-up album aptly called Chapter II: Aftermath. You can still recognise the old
Harmony with its straightforward melodic metal. This new album shows growth. There are
excellent compositions on this disc. Soms have progressive metal leanings (Don't Turn
Away), while others are more in the power metal vein (Aftermath). Chapter II: Aftermath is
an album that is a joy to listen to. The mix is clear, giving each instruments the place
it deserves. And the instruments are played very well, from the lustrous guitar and
keyboard solos to the quick paced passages when the rhythm section goes crazy. The clean
vocals match the music well, though some listeners might prefer a rawer style at times.
With all the variety and good musicianship Chapter II: Aftermath is a more than worthy
follow-up to Dreaming Awake. Harmony took their time to mature and this shows. Hopefully
they won't take another five years for the next album. |
