Heel - Evil Days, Rivel Records
Heel is a new band on the Rivel Records' roster. The group was started by
a friend of label boss Christian Rivel, namely singer David Henriksson. He and guitarist
Marcus Elisson started writing songs in 2003 and decided in 2006 they had enough songs for
an album. Thus Evil Days is their debut album. Heel is mainly a melodic metal band.
Characteristic for this band are the catchy choruses that are easy to sing a long to, and
an overall happy feel of the album. Each song has a guitar solo, some of them are pretty
well done. The solo in Stay is something you might expect on a Rob Rock album. The music
is easy to access, because of the choruses, the simple but effective structures, the
bridges and the repetition. This last aspect can also become a weak part. Sometimes Heel
is repeating too much. The first time it may be fun, but after a few listening sessions
this might become boring. David is a singer with a roughness in his voice, medium
sandpaper quality. Two of the songs on Evil Days are more in the power metal vein,
including he opening track Heel. On the whole Evil Days is a very decent production,
though the band won't change the world with their music as this is done many times before.
But good for a debut anyway. |
