Lengsel - The Kiss, The Hope, Whirlwind Records
Lengsel debuted in 2000 with Solace. The band made themselves a name with
that CD filled with progressive black metal. When you expect a sequel, ignore The Kiss,
The Hope. Old Lengsel is hardly recognisable on the new album. Only three tracks make me
think of Solace, but even these songs differ from Solace in many ways. The rest of the
album is extravagant, experimental and has different musical directions. The Kiss, The
Hope sounds like a product from a band in an identiy crisis. Some tracks tend to
metalcore, others are very mellow and one of them leans towards jazz (Tales Of Lost Love).
Some of this stuff is not bad at all, but it's a pity you have to look hard to find the
good parts. Less stylistic changes would be better next time. |
