Mike Visaggio - Starship
Universe, Independent
Despite the futuristic look of the cover, with its picture of space and a
rocket, and despite the title, this is music from the past by a modern day artist. Mike
Visaggio is a symphonic rock artist with roots in the seventies and eighties. Think of Yes
and Kerry Livgren. Yet the cover suits as this music is filled with weird sounds. Just
close your eyes and you can imagine yourself traveling through the universe. Visaggio is a
keyboard player and almost everything on his album is created by keyboards and synths.
Keyboards are the dominant factor. Some of the tracks on Starship Universe are
instrumental, others aren't. To be honest, Mike Visaggio is not a very good singer.
Sometimes he sounds weak, sometimes a little out of key. Musically this isn't heavy stuff.
There are no heavy guitars here and any guitar sounds you might hear, were created by
keyboards. But fans of symphonic rock may want to check out this release. The different
sounds and layers of music can be quite appealing at times. With a better singer this
could be great stuff. At least it's refreshing for a modern day musical diet. |
