Oratorio - Redemption, Rivel Records
Redemption is the third release from this Finnish melodic metal band with
some thrash tendencies. The thrash tendencies are clear in the songs Raw and Passing By
(both with cool guitar solos!). The vocals are clean, but not very remarkable. In Raw they
sometimes remind of James Hetfield but are mostly weaker. Most notable thing about this
band, is their use of keyboards and classic instrumentations. Especially in Brothers,
which starts almost like a classical song. But a string arrangement can be heard in other
tracks as well, like Faceless. Unfortunately these elements were added by guest musicians
as they could help Oratorio create their own sound, as Redemption isn't particularly
unique. However, the song writing is solid and the guitar sound very likeable. This shows
a band with potential. Evidently Rivel Records discovered this too, as Redemption was sort
of released independently at first and then picked up by this Swedish label. Hopefully we
hear more from this band in the future to hear if they've succeeded in developing their
sound. Listen to Oratorio on myspace.com |
