Pantokrator - A Decade Of
Thoughts, Momentum
Scandinavia
It may look odd to release a best-of album when you only did three demos,
an EP and one full-length album. But A Decade Of Thoughts is more or less the marking of
the first decade of the Swedish melodic death metal Pantokrator. They started in 1996. At
that time the members were mere teenagers, still wet behind the ears. The EP and the album
show how much they've grown since. What makes this album interesting, are the unreleased
tracks. Two of them are in fact songs from old demos that were rearranged and re-recorded
in 2006. Like the opening track Punish The Evil. Two tracks were not released for
mysterious reasons. One of them is the spoken word track Psalm 29. Then there is a cover
of Cut Into Pieces, recorded in 2006 and originally written by Vengeance Rising. And there
are two songs that were recorded after the release of the only full-length album, Blod:
Leviathan (2004) and Nebuchadnezzar (2005). Most of the tracks are in a fine state. Only
two songs are weak, sound wise: Via Dolorosa, which is a doom song with black metal
passages and very room/spacy sounding vocals (in fact, it's a pretty cool song, despite
the poor sound quality) and White Robes. Both were taken from the 1998 demo Even Unto The
End Of The Earth. However, the rest of this best-of is pretty well done with music
combining doom and melodic death metal. Since the release of A Decade Of Thoughts
Pantokrator released their second full length studio album Aurum. Let's hope we'll be able
to celebrate a second decade of thoughts in 2017. |
