Templar - Preaching To The Perverted, Black Pope Music/YoungSide Records
This is a band that has succeeded in attracting my attention. The title
is remarkable, the cover appealing and the artwork well carried out. But that is only the
packaging. What really counts is the music. The cover artwork might suggest something
gothic, but Templar is a classic heavy metal band. Josh Kramer of metal band Saint did the
lead vocals on two tracks, including Warlord, which sounds like a song from the eighties
Saint catalogue. It's actually a pity the song was sung by Kramer. Though he's a great
singer, Templar lack their own face in this song. Better example of the band is Desolator.
This track is one of the highlights on Preaching To The Perverted with its raw vocals and
impressive chorus that will stick itself fast in your memory. Templar singer Daniel's
vocals have their own merit, so why invite another singer to do two songs, while a third
song is sung by another guest (Phoenix Taylor)? Another track worth the attention is the
final song, Witch Hunt. What makes this one special is the guest appearance of Ez Gomer of
the Swedish band Jet Circus. He does lead vocals in the chorus. What a yell that guy has!
Preaching To The Perverted is an international release. The band is from Australia. The CD
was manufactured in the USA. There are American guest contributions. And Europe is
represented too, not only by Ez Gomer, but also by Lilith Vampiriozah from Warshaw,
Poland, who shot photos. And spoken word samples from actor and Count Dracula performer
Bela Lugosi from Hungary were used in the first track (with a funny accent that fits very
well with the music). Though there's room for improvement, Templar delivered a highly
likeable debut with a few songs that I keep playing. By the way, nice guitar solos! |
